a painting that has influenced my view of the world :: College Admissions Essays

a painting that has influenced my view of the world    Select a creative work-a novel, a poem, a musical piece, a painting, or other work of art-that has influenced the way you view the world and the way you view yourself.   Discuss the work and its effect on you.           Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   I still remember the first time I saw her.   Her jealous beauty staring fervently at me.   Her wealth of luscious red hair tamed by a golden clip.   The precious face staring lustfully over my shoulder-or perhaps staring at me?   Soft pearly-white hands poked through a deep green velvet dress-in one hand a violin, the other a bow.   Behind her a brilliant yellow canary rhapsodizes a tune that she pauses to hear.      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Her name is Veronica Veronese.   She hangs in the Delaware Art Museum but I first saw her in Art & Antiques, a monthly art magazine.   The whole painting enthralled me so greatly that I decided to learn more about the artist: Dante Gabriel Rossetti.   He belonged to a group called the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood: a group of seven united through their art.   Having just read about the superhuman determination and intensity of Michelangelo, these seven were a decided change: they had human faults and error.      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   As I delved into their world of Victorian romance and poetry I found that everything that happened in their lives happened, not by chance but for a reason. If Lizzie Siddal, Rossetti's wife, had not died at the apex of their long and winding relationship, then he might not have been perpetually inspired to make the extreme beauties that he painted to memorialize her.   The model for Veronica Veronese is Alexa Wilding.   She, as all the women in his later paintings, looks stunningly similar to Lizzie.    Similarly, in my life, I realized that mistakes happened for a reason.   They humbled me, but also gave me a reason not to go do that mistake again: experience.   Experience is the best teacher that I've found.   Touching a red hot stove is far different than knowing not to touch it.   If you do make the mistake of touching it, you'll never again do it-simply because you know the consequences.      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   After consuming books about the PRB, I realized that I had to know something about art to appreciate it.   I found this out when I began looking at works by Egon Schiele, an early twentieth century art who painted what most would call pornography.

Suspense in Steven Spielbergs Movie Jaws Essay example -- Movie Film

Suspense in Steven Spielberg's Movie Jaws Steven Spielberg, the creator of Jaws, uses many different techniques to draw in the suspense of viewers and to capture their imagination. These techniques include special effects – to create tension, different camera angles – to show facial expressions and group shots. The classic Jaws music, known by millions of people, also helps build up tension, to let us know when the shark is approaching. He uses colours, so that we can associate signs and symbols to forthcoming events, e.g. the colour red is associated with danger. We will be using all of the above devices to help analyse different parts of the film.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  As soon as the film starts, from the title sequence, these techniques are being used. The music begins very quietly and slowly. In my opinion, I get the impression that danger is on its way, and, also, it is dark, which builds up the suspense. The opening credits are written a sharp pointy writing, which is perhaps suggesting the teeth of the shark, and its capabilities.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  As the scene changes, the suspense and anxiety increases, because we are now watching the film from the sharks point of view but, as the shark is swimming through the water, there is a lot of weeds in his way, which makes the audience very agitated, and the speed of the shark may suggest that he is anxious to get somewhere.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The music then starts to build up, by getting louder and faster. This starts to get the audience thinking, and wondering what will happen next. It builds up a lot of tension and suspense, and you seem, to know that danger is getting closer.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  After this event, the atmosphere changes dramatically. It becomes livelier, and there is an old-fashioned feeling, as there is a mouth organ being played in the background. Everybody seems to be having fun, which does make them seem quite a lot more vulnerable, as they are unaware of the danger.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  There is also a large bonfire on the beach, which gives the audience a sense of safety, but also, fire means danger, so it makes you unsure. The large amount of people also gives you a sense of safety, but again this is dampened by the fact that they are in the dark, making them seem vulnerable, also this makes their vision very scarce, as it is the dark, and they can’t see very far.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The third shot reminds us of the danger, as you have pushed the... ...n see that Brody does not feel safe, and it makes Brody look really vulnerable.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  When you first see the shark leaving the docks, you watch them leave through a pair of shark jaws. When I saw this, I immediately thought that Brody, Hooper and Quinn would encounter the shark, and that it wasn’t going to be an easy trip. Seeing the shark jaws also builds up tension.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  My fifth advice is when Quinn lies on the radio. He tells people on shore that everything is fine, and they have nothing to worry about, but at this point in the film, they are actually â€Å"battling† the shark. This leads the viewers to false pretences, as you can see what is happening, and I got the impression that Quinn did not want the people on the other end of the radio to know the real capabilities of the shark. I also got the impression that Quinn did not want any help, as if it would degrade him, he had to do it all on his own.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  My last device is where the music changes, and becomes a more happy song. This happens when the first barrel is attached to the shark, and this leads the viewers to believe that Quinn, Hooper and Brody have virtually beaten the shark, but in fact they are no where near.

Effective Leadership of the Registered Nurse in Home Care Essay

It is difficult to define what makes an â€Å"effective† leadership in home care, but most of people would be able to distinguish between effective and weak leadership. Leading is associated with ‘leading the way’. Professionals who can see a way forward and can explain this to nurses and enthuse them to follow that path are often considered to be demonstrating leadership. In the language often used to describe leadership in home care this interprets as people who both have vision and are able to communicate the vision to nurses and to motivate them into taking action. Leadership is important in the initiatives intended to develop and improve home care services. This type of leadership is essential in effective management of home care. Effective leadership and team working Leadership is essentially about relationships with staff. One can’t be a leader unless employees are prepared to go alongside or to follow one’s lead. Creating a good team is not a one-off activity that can be achieved through an ‘away day’, although this also can be a useful mechanism. It is a continuing process that should to be continually worked at. The team may be very diverse in knowledge, skills and experience. Effective leadership in a multi-disciplinary context can be hindered by lack of understanding of each other’s roles (Kadushin 67). Therefore, the effective leader must ensure that there is opportunity and encouragement to explore the differences rather than leaving them partially recognized and potentially damaging. Leadership style There is a fairly wide unanimity that there is no one right way to be an effective leader in home care (Zarit 34). As every situation is different, leaders often have to be flexible in choosing what style to adopt. Leaders should be able to balance the needs of the individuals, the staff and the task. Style is often considered as a continuum of possibilities between the opposing approaches of being very directive or consultative to the point of delegating decisions. A very directive style, for example, would be to tell a nurse exactly what to do without discussing anything. The opposite would be a delegating style. Here the leader hands over most, if not all, of the decision making. There are dangers in both of these styles. Therefore, effective leader will adopt a mixture of directive and consultative styles according to the situation and the people and tasks involved. Some of the approaches that effective leader can take come between a directive style and complete delegation. These are the following (Austin 90): ââ€"   selling – the leader explains his or her decision to staff and overcome any objections; ââ€"   shaping – the leader takes the key decisions and then involve staff in shaping how to implement decisions; ââ€"   consulting – the leader invites comment and ideas and considers these in coming to key decisions; ââ€"   selective delegation – the leader delegates decisions within a framework that defines the boundaries of the delegated authority. The leader also ensures that the person to whom he or she has delegated has the training and support to carry out the role. If nurses are frightened of being blamed if mistakes are made it is important for leader to ensure that individuals are not put at risk. The further the leader comes down this list of approaches, the more freedom the leader is perceived to be offering staff. Staffs often want to have some freedom. This is in case, if they are well prepared for the responsibilities that involvement and delegation bring. It is important, however, for the leader to be aware of the expectations in any environment and to use appropriate styles that will work for the employees. Power in effective leadership Leader with power can get things done and can stop things from happening. The use of power on staff can cause misery and fear or give the confidence of approval and protection. Effective leaders are often thought to be powerful people whose power on staff gives the confidence of approval and protection. Power of leadership is an energy that can be used in different ways in home care according to the source from which the power is derived. Effective leader needs some power to lead or manage staff because nurses who are to carry out the tasks and activities need to be empowered to do it. However, it is often more effective to be able to work influentially within an environment where many nurses hold power. Leadership roles The very important early stages involve developing the vision of the tasks in a way that encourages nurses to see its value (Austin 67). This vision has to be communicated to nurses. Then it has to be turned into a set of plans that provide the strategy through which the tasks will be accomplished. The effective leader then has to help everyone to maintain progress towards achieving successful outcomes. This is often connected with being a lighthouse and providing the beam of light that directs the nurses. The role of the effective leader is often described as being connected with vision and values and the role of the manager as ensuring effective and efficient actions. The role of the effective leader can be seen as to develop, communicate and maintain the vision. The leader motivates everyone to progress in the right direction and ensures that the strategy is enacted with plans, activities and tasks. Most projects, particularly those in home care settings, include complex settings having many different views and expectations. In such settings it is always difficult to take action because nurses will be interested, concerned or vulnerable. Therefore, the leader will need negotiating and teaching skills. Conclusion Effective leaders in home care have to go backwards through the stages of creating a successful team many times before things run smoothly. Life is never as simple as models and styles might suggest. Leaders in teams can help nurses to understand what is happening and often can facilitate productive discussions when storming seems to be distracting the tasks. If emphasis is placed on the value and importance of achieving the goals successfully, discussions must be kept focused about how to progress. It is usually helpful to ensure that every nurse is involved in discussions about working practice because if they are not, there will be a feeling of exclusion and maybe fear of blame. Effective leaders within the team contribute to ensuring that the common commitment to achieving the good results.

Comparison of norse gods to greek gods essays

Comparison of norse gods to greek gods essays Religion over the ages has served the purpose of trying to explain creation and life to the people who follow it. Religion, particularly that of ancient peoples, has used Gods to explain life, creation, and morals among other things it followers. Religion also sought to explain the unexplainable. Because Religions tend to serve the same purpose despite different followers, they often end up being similar to one another. Comparisons of different religions and myths become relatively easy due to their similarities. Norse Mythology can easily compared to Greek Mythology. Norse Mythology was mainly a religion of the Northern People during the early Middle Ages. Its followers hailed from lands such as Scandinavia, Sweden and Denmark. The Greeks on the other hand had a religion that reached its highest point hundreds of years before the Common Era. The Greeks had a slightly different view on religion partially because they lived in a friendlier climate. Norse people spent their harsh winters with no light and their summers with no darkness. They had extremes in weather at all times of the year, and their seas were dangerous with the strong winds and stronger storms. The Greeks on the other hand had a more moderate climate. Their winters were cold but not terrible and their summers were warm and pleasant. While the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas were not the safest or most pleasant routes of travel they were heaven in comparison to the North Sea of the Norse People. These differences in climate caused differences in lifestyle and overall differences in beliefs. However, despite this the Norse and the Greeks still managed to have very similar beliefs and myths. Gods are perhaps the most obviously similar aspects between the Norse and the Greeks. Thor was the son of Odin and a member of the Aesir, the name for a group Norse gods. He was the god of thunder and the main enemy of the giants. Thors main weapon was his mighty axe...

Jeffersons Views on Education essays

Jeffersons Views on Education essays Thomas Jefferson believed that universal education would have to precede universal suffrage. The ignorant, he argued, were incapable of self-government. But he had profound faith in the reasonableness and teachableness of the masses and in their collective wisdom when taught. He believed that the schools should teach reading, writing, and arithmetic. Also, the children should learn about Grecian, roman, English, and American History. Jefferson believed the nation needed public schools scattered around, for all male citizens to receive free education. By 1789, the first law was passed in Massachusetts to reaffirm the colonial laws by which towns were obligated to support a school. This law was ignored. Private schools were opened only to those who could afford to pay them. In the middle states religious groups opened most schools. Not many schools or institutions were opened to the nonwealthy people. The women, blacks, and Indians were not able to go to school. It was not until the early 1900s that the Nation began making academies for females, because government thought that they needed to be educated mothers to educate their children. Jefferson believed in the Republican Mother. Later, many 19th century reformers believed in the power of education to reform and redeem- to release a blame or debt, to buy back- backward people. As a result, they generated a growing interest in Indian Education. Jefferson and his followers believed that the Native Americans were noble savages, they hoped that schooling the Indians in white culture would uplift- to improve the spiritual, social, or intellect condition- the tribes. But the states and local government did little to support education. Unlike the women and Indians, blacks had no support at all. There were no efforts to educate enslaved African Americans, mostly because their owner ...

Extracurricular activties - Essay Example However, some of the private schools make extracurricular activities mandatory so as to create a more â€Å" well rounded student† (Allen 56-58). This seems to contradict the main definition of extra-curricular activities which are meant to be voluntary, but it is also an obligation for all the students to participate in an extracurricular activity of their choice. Extra curricular activities have positive effects on the student’s creativity, behavior and enhanced racial and economic diversity, but technology has negatively impacted student participation and some of the students feel left out of these activities. There are numerous benefits that students can get from extracurricular activities. These are the activities that students participate in but do not fall into the realm of normal curriculum activities. The extracurricular activities are totally voluntary so students that do not want to participate in them to not have to. They allow students to apply the knowledg e that they have learned and acquire new concepts from these activities. The positive effect of extracurricular activities includes good behavior, better grades in school and positive attitude towards life. Students who participate is extracurricular activities have reduced behavior problems. ... Extra curricular activities offer an open opportunity for anybody to portray his or her own skills in any the clubs that they enroll in. The students who indulge in such activities come from different ethnic and racial backgrounds. It is through in this platform that these people are able to interact with each other so that they can share some of their cultural background with one another (Barbieri 45-48). For example, a football team can have players who come from different ethnic and racial backgrounds but are able to play together as a team. Extra curricular activities helps to embrace cultural diversity as people from different cultures are able to enjoy the one thing that brings them together. The extracurricular activities that may be offered at a certain school may require the students who participate to meet certain requirements (Rugg 34-35). For example, to be able to join the debate club, you need to be a good orator, to be able to join football or rugby or football, you ne ed to be physically fit and masculine : these are just but of the few extracurricular activities that require the participants to meet certain standards. This makes some of the students who would want to join this clubs but not meet the requirements needed feel left out of some of the extracurricular activities and are forced to be spectators. Conversely, some of the students who join some of these clubs may face discrimination or ridicule and end up giving up any extracellular activities. The technological advancement that has been witnessed around the world is phenomenal. Virtually, every student has frequent access to the either a computer device or the internet. The author of shame, Dick Gregory, employs the use of the first person point of view. This perspective is effective in creating an intimate relationship with the reader since all emotions and attitudes expressed in the narrative are from the author’s point of view. This technique is quite flexible and subjective because it allows the author to portray a stream of consciousness while conducting an interior monologue. However, this point of view is impaired because the opinions in the narrative are from a particular individual. The author of Propaganda Techniques in Today’s Advertising, employs the use of a third person point of view. Policy The existing laws, policies as well as regulations that prohibit sale and misuse of assault weapons have in the recent past turned out to be ineffective and unnecessary in United States of America. The increasing cases of misuses of firearms in the country have as a r esult called for the introduction of instant policy to counter the vice. The current legislation has misleading and incorrect definitions and explanation of the concept of assault rifle. The misleading and confusing definition has resulted to the emergence of serious setbacks in the effort of eliminating assault weapon in public sphere. As a result, to achieve the best outcome from the existing and new policies and regulations, the house of representative should provide a clear definition and explanation of the concept assault weapons. There is need for the house of representative to pass an assault rifle provision that will criminalize the misuse of firearms. The policy should as well impose very severe sanctions to individuals who are found in possession of illegal arms. The house of representative should propose to the federal and state governments to finance the appointment of one assistant United States attorney in each district to prosecute felons who are found to poses assaul t rifles. Moreover, the appointed attorney should as well be given the mandate and responsibility of executing the relevant sanctions to offenders (Hardy, 2002). To counter the misuse of firearms, the federal government and other stakeholders should ensure consistent enforcement of the existing policies and laws specifically in the context of drug-trafficking crimes. The house of representative should as well consider passing a provision that will facilitate the creation of level III prison facilities as well as minimum security in every state. Prison facilities will play an incredibly effective role in ensuring that, criminals who are convicted for illegally possessing and misusing firearms serves their sentence as prescribed by statute. Minimum security will on the other hand help in undertaking comprehensive investigation. In addition, the house of representative should as well create a legal task that will be mandated with the responsibility of exerting informal and formal press ure on the entertainment industry to take immediate measures to minimize the extensive misuse of firearms in their areas of coverage. The entertainment officials should as well be encouraged

Is closure of the high street businesses a key factor in the drop of Dissertation

Is closure of the high street businesses a key factor in the drop of Yell's share price - Dissertation Example Its lending operations were limited to the large corporations that could issue bonds to secure loans. When some of the money supply reached those big businesses, the owners and management utilized additional funds to similarly strengthen their balance sheets. In a survey about the SME Access to Finance conducted by the Scottish Government Chief Economic Adviser (2011, p.2), the importance of SMEs was emphasized. They made up 99% of all businesses in Scotland. â€Å"The results showed that the demand for finance (working capital) had increased but that approval rates for applications had fallen. Many firms also perceived the costs of credit to have risen†¦(p.2).† And the â€Å"Overall lending to Scottish SMEs in 2010 is lower than in 2009, reflecting a combination of weak demand and constraints in supply of lending (p.4)†. In another survey by Dr. Fraser, Stuart (2009, p.5), 2,500 SMEs were surveyed in UK. It was discovered that SMEs in UK utilize credit cards (55.3 % of SMEs from 2001-2004 and 54.4 % of SMEs in 2005-2008). Their other sources of financing were as follows: a. Invoice Financing – â€Å"3 % of SMEs in 2001-04 to 2.2 % in 2005-08† (p.5) b. Equity Finance – 3 % c. Credit from Suppliers – 33 % d. Loans from Friends – â€Å"5.6% in 2001-4 to 7.0% in 2005-08† (p.5) e. ... In the results of survey, it was discovered that 62 % had to resort to self-finance or savings to fund a business. Only 26 % borrowed from banks. (p. 19) Following are the charts showing low consumer spending, low consumer confidence, and high unemployment compared to the time before the recession. All are relevant because SMEs could not do well as a result of a poor economic climate. Yell will also feel the crunch because its customers are SMEs. (Source: Oxford Economics: UK Forecast in Detail 2011, p. 63) (Source: Oxford Economics: UK Forecast in Detail 2011, p. 62) ( Source: Bank of England Inflation Report 2011) Note that Velocity of Circulation refers to the time it takes for the banks to make funds available to the public, including SMEs, large corporations, and private individuals. Objectives: 1. To determine why the Share Price of Yell Group PLC has been declining since 2010 up to the present; 2. To establish whether or not the closure of high street businesses is a major fac tor for the decline of the Share Price of Yell Group; 3. To provide the logical evidence that support the explanation for the Share Price decline 4. To identify other factors that may be causes for the Yell Group PLC’s share to decline. Serving these objectives will lead to the utilization of quantitative tools for decision making with the pricing of stocks. Literature Review Overview A quick look at the chart and table of Yell Group PLC’s Stock value since the year 2003 up to the present ( See appended Charts & Tables.) shows a downward trend from the latter quarter of 2007 all the way to the present. A year ago, in April 21, 2010, the price index was at 59. That

Crichton Smith Critical Evaluation Essay Example for Free

Crichton Smith Critical Evaluation Essay Home by Iain Crichton Smith is a short story which creates a sense of time and place. This essay will examine how the sense of place is shown in setting and will comment on the message the writer has. Jackson is a man returning to his hometown in Glasgow from South Africa. It becomes apparent to the reader that the setting, in both time and place, is a very important aspect in conveying the meaning of the text. In the short story it becomes apparent that the place has changed since Jackson was last here as the city of Glasgow has undergone a period of decline and decay. This is shown in different ways such as characterisation, descriptive language and the use of imagery. Smith shows firstly how very unpleasant Jacksons hometown has become at the start of the story. He describes how things are poorly maintained like his old tenement has become drab and the walls are described as:  Brown above and dirty blue below, pitted with scars  Brown shows how unpleasant the setting is through the use of negative colour imagery. The colour brown very often has negative connotations. This gives the reader an immediate negative image of the tenement. Also Smith uses the colour blue which should give a positive image, however he uses it with the word dirty which also gives the reader an image of the unpleasant environment around the tenement. Also to give the reader a bit more of a negative image of the area, Smith writes pitted with scars, which has two meanings in the story one of which is suppose to mean the area is literally scarred because the area has been very poorly maintained and is very unpleasant. The second meaning is that it is metaphorically scarred because it has had an emotional impact on everyone in the neighbourhood. This is also used to highlight the horrendous living conditions in Glasgow. While Jackson remains regretful about the hardships of the living conditions in Glasgow and in his tenement, Jacksons wife has a more realistic idea that times have changed in Glasgow when she says to Jackson, Lock the car dear, This shows the reality of this area and shows Jacksons ignorance and that his wife is very wary about that particular area. Jackson shows how naà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ve he really is and that he does not realise that the place has changed dramatically and protests: They dont do things like that here  The image of the unpleasantness of the area is again highlighted.  as the town had changed a lot since they had left it, that much was clear  The story continues by focusing strongly on the negative changes such as, the loss of the community spirit, the local shops and the loss of friends to featureless estates. Smith is clearly commenting of how the social conditions of Glasgow have changed dramatically through time. Jackson visits his old office, a place of happy memories of. However, upon entering the office his memories are shattered and he begins to realise how uninteresting and unpleasant the office actually is. Jackson stood cringing in that rotting office. This shows that Jacksons view is beginning to change as he draws back and he does not enjoy being back at his old office. Both cringing and rotting have negative connotations and this highlights how uncomfortable he is beginning to feel in an office that appears to be decaying in his eyes. At this point the reader is also meant to see that Jacksons nostalgia destroys the strikingly expressive memory immediately after arguing with the factor of the building. Jackson shows and immediate change of attitude and character when he now sees Africa as home by suddenly saying;  I wish to God we were home  This speech shows the dramatic change in his character. The reader sees how the nostalgia that Jackson had has been completely destroyed. Also he sees people who live in the tenements as punks when Smith writes;  By God, they knew how to deal with punks where he came from  Iain Smith uses very effective word choice. Punks shows how Jackson sees people who live in the tenements in a very bad way. The reader is made aware of the ignorance of Jackson and he appears to have learned nothing from his visit and he would have still have acted aggressively.  Overall, Home by Iain Crichton Smith is a short story which has been shown throughout. The character of Jackson has changed dramatically because of the setting in place. This short story shows that people can be naà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ve when they are talking about where they come from but when they leave and come back again and see a massive difference which changes the character of the person.

Study on Hankou Digital Building Repair Technology

Study on Hankou Digital Building Repair Technology Summary In this context, traditional building crafts craftsman in artistic conception is under the control, use the appropriate tools or equipment, according to the ages, follow the way from raw material acquisition, manufacture components to install molding, to complete a post-renovation process technology ; endangered intangible cultural heritage in urgent need of rescue and system protection. In this paper, the current status of our architectural heritage protection process, analyzes the significance of the protection framework and ideas, discuss their research methods to analyze the feasibility of building process aimed at promoting heritage protection process, to resolve the current architectural Heritage Protection the lost technology and craftsman team fault, the urgent problem for protection policies provide reference formulation. On the building process is about building sophisticated cognitive system theory and principles and methods of generation, including: the principle of building technology, building technology system structure, and evolution of construction technology paradigm, Chinese modern architecture and sophisticated analysis of the problem 4 to improve its strategy part of a chain, the development of theory and practice in the field of architecture will have far-reaching significance. There is a neglect of traditional building technology issues in the protection of architectural heritage, traditional construction technology plays an important role in the building heritage protection system. Our architectural heritage protection from the perspective of the role of traditional Chinese architecture technology and explore effective ways to protect and respect their heritage. Keywords traditional construction technology; architectural heritage; protected mode; framework; building Chinas ancient building in the world in the unique building system, the legacy of ancient buildings is our precious spiritual heritage, which more and more attention to protect the community. Architectural heritage protection is a complex project, which requires multi-disciplinary, multi-angle, multi-level study is a gradual, continuous exploration and improvement process. With the depth protection practical work, theoretical studies of architectural heritage protection of people also deepening. Entering the new century, China is facing more large-scale urban renewal and the construction of new socialist countryside construction, which makes architectural heritage protection more urgent, more complicated. Architectural heritage protection in thought and theoretical knowledge and practical aspects need to be a breakthrough. At present, the study of architectural heritage conservation is more concerned about the shape of the building itself, the layout features, aesthetic features, architectural culture (in this case a narrow spiritual culture), etc., although these studies are important, but in this under the influence of the trend of species, researchers overlooked a very important issue, that is, traditional Chinese architecture technology protection. In the traditional architectural heritage protection work, emphasis is often placed on the protection of the building itself, the method taken only limited mapping, drawing analysis, by the drawing and other aspects, but they ignore the protection of its initial construction process of traditional crafts. Traditional construction process technology research remained mostly at the micro level, or that is a purely technical level, but very few people from the architectural heritage of the height to look at this issue. Based on this, this paper discusses the architectural heritage protection system in the whole project, the important role of traditional construction technology occupied, and from the perspective of architectural heritage conservation study the protection and inheritance. In recent years, Chinas traditional cultural heritage protection can be described as popular, a change in the past few experts campaigned situation, both the user heartfelt call, but also the introduction of relevant government policies and protection measures, and integrated into the global protection of the tides. In architectural heritage protection, must involve traditional technologies and processes, they are an important part of the architectural heritage indispensable. So far, however, the academic field of architectural heritage protection process there are large gaps. In the longitudinal direction, the study of ancient architecture technology, building on the evolution process of contemporary architecture process itself deep level of research and so on, there are a lot of space. In the transverse direction, the building process of our regional heritage to explore, although the results still did not dare say overall, still a lot of areas for mining. And ineffective in practice, one-sided and inadequate protection of ideas, protection measures, lack of protection technologies, such as improper recycling, but also the protection of important issues currently facing the work. Thinking traditional building craft heritage embodied values à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ ¹Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ ¹and create a code of conduct, the song spread Carpenter, Carpenter agreed, experienced the process to create, is a comprehensive understanding of the value of the architectural heritage foundation. As the process is invisible, by the specific craftsmen holds, vital records (such as video) than words and expressions based on time according to the process diagram nodes is more intuitive, accurate, easy to understand, and easy to spread. Craft skill level is a direct manifestation of the level of technology, the basic technology tradition and progress, the level of skills and technology is unique and individual. Historically, process improvements to improve the skills and technology are inextricably linked. Process objectively present in the artisan industry environment, industry environment and their social, economic, cultural and even government policy has a direct relationship. Therefore, to explore under Chinas current situation construction craft heritage protection and effective way and overall application system, namely the establishment of craft heritage protection application framework, such as the scientific record technology, mining and collating system method to save, process original assertion the method, class determination, artisan craft skills assessment levels to develop, Carpenter field (ie, social, economic and industry environment, artisan craftsmen team to survive, etc.) cultivation, propagation mode artisans incentives, develop policies to protect, process, etc., architectural heritage is undoubtedly an important part of the process, with considerable reality and urgency. Scientific method Construction of the system depends on principle basis. Refined or not the problem seems simple, actually covers a wide and deep problem, not only in the material level, but in all aspects of the theory of cognitive actual operation, in-depth and systematic about fine building awareness and basic principles of research generated to effectively solve the fundamental problems in practice have greater social significance. For these reasons prompted the study period experienced an extended form of visual detail to focus on comprehensive knowledge, to explore specific emphasis from exquisitely detailed case as to learn from Chinas countermeasures, and to explore the extension of the principle of recognition and generation of detail, the method of the present paper and paradigms, etc. as the basis for China countermeasure development process changes, new perspective deeper systematic return to the entire built environment quality construction craft origin of the study, research questions eventually extended to about exquisite architectural recognize construction of a universal significance Knowing and the resulting theoretical framework principles and methods to advanced multi-disciplinary integration of knowledge structure, based on in-depth cognitive and psycho-physiological mechanisms of human life built construction and the built environment, and to systematically explain the elaborate architecture d evelopment of scientific principles and the promotion of artistic and cultural significance of exquisite architectural generation method. Thus, this paper creatively to build a building process of theoretical framework, including: the principle of building technology, building technology system structure, and evolution of construction technology paradigm, Chinese modern architectural elegance of the problem analysis and improvement strategies a chain of 4 parts, which proposed the digital divide of integrated computing generated art building design and construction methods of conception exquisite architecture.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Principle construction process, namely through the people and the environment, the model to explain the psychological and physiological basis for cognitive and construction of the generalized craft built environment, significance and system configuration. Construction of human life determines the built environment and the construction of the meaning of art, craft and technology law system constitutes the material to achieve that sense of art, science and technology unified in the construction of human life.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In dialectical materialism, existentialism and phenomenology, constructivism, cognitive neuroscience, life sciences, digital and computing science is proposed based on the same Constructivism: the way people with cognitive issues exist outlook and that is defined Relevancy in the Methodology in. The whole world is the integration of a substance present in any one thing as the standard reference, by defining the relationship established, you can construct the entire world, the World of the individual. Define the boundary forming Form, defines the characteristics associated boundary substance, material properties associated with the presence of the dialectical relationship between unity, such as transparent glass, is light clear glass light perception overall unity of the three characteristics. Boundary is performance in the beginning, associate have a sense, the other potential association that is defined in the corresponding meaning content. Meaning: manifestat ions referred to, within the meaning of the other relationship. Substance material existence is all its properties that it is integrated with the outside world all affiliated body, the material has properties determine the potential association which may be established.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In modern science and technology on the electrode stimulation, neurons, mental events materialized and quantitative research based on the results, you can construct scientific objectification and quantification of human life Construction, Built Environment and Environmental Principles and form new technical methods model. In neurons as the basic unit, electrically (non-graphical media) measurement, the life normalized to the overall regulation of the nervous system; neural mechanisms of cognition and the construction of the life authority boundary by the perceptual system parameter threshold perception domain stack information flow together approach and the construction of the Trinity, and the energy flow and material flow control jointly defined.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Other lives permission demarcation rules, such as: self-awareness and interior of the vehicle and its associated normalized to the substance, integrated personal measurement scale pattern and form a boundary, regional and social dimensions of personal property of a current presence materialized relationship, normalized historical time series up to now materialized.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In recent years, the traditional construction technology research has become an important topic in the field of the history of Chinese architecture, is valued by scholars and experts, and made some new results.   Ã‚  Ã‚   Process to life, is the construction of life forms in the process, but also the construction and interpretation of the built environment shape the process; people the construction of life skills system determines the built environment process system consisting of: human life forms and the need to build the program and the built environment in the form of 3 sub-systems. A. Building a system configuration process Architecture is a detail of the entire built environment, building technology system configuration including human life forms and the need to build programs and architectural forms, etc. 3 sub-elements. Architecture is the whole personal world of linkage chain external environment media perception cognition in the perception of some elements of the linkage, its radius, there is a common interface to define their domain material, it is a detail of the entire built environment. Thus, the meaning of building technology and its system structure is determined by the Built Environment Technology system, but different. Consistently, the building of human life is to construct its meaning and the ultimate value of the target, it can be based on the structure of Built Environment Technology system of determining building process system consisting of: human life forms and the need to build the program, architectural forms . Building technology elements of the system, that building is the core technology for social, artistic and cultural system organizations. Related issues and human scale human life forms and demand mainly corresponds to the principle of human life, the value of life-related trends, socio-cultural and social system. Construction program is a property of the program, the major elements including materials, processing; generalized material that is a collection of material properties, processing and generalized generalized force that is changing the shape of the boundary defining attributes collection. Architectural form is a collection of attributes, including the main elements of detail , structure hierarchy. The difference is, built environment means all associated with the bodys environment, from the beginning of all associated media to perceive all the external environment; and buildings associated interfaces do not necessarily provide a direct effect on peoples perception of the channel, being direct perception, to aware services, like hierarchical structure does not necessarily have to be perceived, but it is linked chain of life indispensable part, together with the rest of the construction of life. Building technology is not a traditional space and time coordinates relationship to define structure levels and the construction program of the building, but the people-oriented, individuals with social and cultural nature as a yardstick to determine the building material by all types of perceptual field superimposed manner property boundary material to form the basic components and parts, and thus logically associated construction to meet the needs of the dynamic development of integrated functionality into the core of the whole building, and ultimately the formation of common perception and memory interaction, integration of knowledge inside the architecture meaning and value judgments. B. Paradigm evolution and building technology Each has its own built environment exists reasonable vividness. Construction craft principle, based on the process of building a system configuration as a framework, the degree of media evolution, cognitive and operational scale to measure accuracy, to sense superimposed on cognitive domain, construction and performance of construction form and level of evolution as the standard building process paradigm into the building process occurs, intuitive manual monomer gestalt techniques, logical mechanical sub-composite technology, digital computing and other points of integration builds skill four evolution stages. With the evolution of the cognitive dimension of life: ignorant, deified, anatomy, life sciences, psychology, physics, the occurrence of cognitive theory, cognitive neuroscience, individual scale evolution expressed as divine monarch, individual anatomy, human rights and freedom, human factors, mechanical aesthetics, psychology, constructivism, sustainable development, the sequence of depth and integration. Material properties and processing associated by way affect the basic unit of construction and construction logic, the basic unit of aesthetic cognitive and aesthetic philosophy, continue to promote the evolution of architectural forms; time and space to determine the nature of the original conditions of the raw material represents the local is replaced by a new international order under the uniform building process represents human cognitive processing capacity and local. Multisensory site involved in manual processing to bring the building in the form of a sense of the limitatio ns of the processing capacity of humane scale early industrial processes resulting in limited access to basic material properties and associated elements and makes the whole built environment lacks humanity needs abundant and freely, digital computing Science and Technology It supports flexible integration of design and manufacturing processes to achieve a modern industrial building the humane sense of scale. Because the thought process is the general idea of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ ¹Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ ¹the whole people deal with the external environment connected all, the difference between the levels of development process, far more than on the same level as between different sizes or specific spatial location defined by different types of buildings, or between cases differences. Machine Aesthetic Modernism does not refer to material or machining machine the same shape, but rather like a machine designed and built in line with the product from the principles of logic cut. Its core concept to grasp the principles of the art of architecture, combined with the evolution of socio-technical system, and constantly create new forms of modernism, for example, Arts and Crafts Movement and Art Nouveau, Bauhaus and machine aesthetics, late modernity doctrine and high-tech, minimalist, ecology and integrated digital computing generation, together constitute the main line of development of modernism, its unified nature. Just fine with respect to the human sensory system, the initial machining flexibility and community design concept to grasp the lack of capacity, resulting from the practice of modernism formal dogmatic interpretation of flooding and poor content. In cognitive neuroscience, science and technology of digital computing, sensing and more flexible integrated m anufacturing and other advanced scientific and technological achievements, supported by art form gradually shift from intuitive visual modeling to calculate a variety of shapes and feel integrated generation, computer-controlled machine in line with modernist aesthetics center more refined and rich cultural connotation of the architectural form of the concept is to be completely realized. Construction craft principle, based on the process of building a system constitutes a framework, refer to the Building Technology Paradigm and Evolution in the case and, combining modern architecture objective situation in China, it does not lead to sophisticated analysis crux of strategies for improvement. A. Cognition and Research on Principle China principle on the nature of modern architecture that is refined building awareness of its scientific significance of arts and humanities, research is not enough, the existing international studies and very few advanced building systems, depth and correct learning, understanding, application. Improvements: Learning the principles of construction of human life; to strengthen research and construction of the built environment essence of teaching, teaching basic theory of systemic architecture; the establishment of the big design concept; the establishment of a modern aesthetic based industrial process. B. Stages of social development   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   1840 to 1949, are being destroyed craftsmanship of traditional architecture and the beginning of Western Learning mostly symbolic formalism of modern architecture, a fine is immune. 1949 ~ big roof European style, emphasis on form language. Chinese modern building situation is precisely the delicate process towards the middle part, the development phase in which the question of inevitability. C. Life forms and demand   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Construction status, various types of work and damage the aesthetic design of uncoordinated building surfaces showed that the construction industry and the society as a whole aesthetic ability, sensitivity needs to be improved. Improve the whole society of the modern architecture of exquisite aesthetic ability, training and raising awareness of perceptual sensitivity (or vision), to improve the cultural and aesthetic accomplishment (or vision). D. Structural design   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The corresponding material properties and their associated fine perception and cognition refined, modern industrial manufacturing technology has been reconstructed human life and aesthetic construction of the basic unit and its associated system rules, building systems to adapt to the industrial process based. Understanding modern technology, architectural detail and grasp an industrial manufacturing process node configuration is the need of modern architects.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   China today has been lost in the construction of traditional craftsmanship, still stuck in the technical level of manual operation, did not enter the industrial process manufacturing stage. Manufacturing needs the intervention of modern industrial manufacturing process transformation construction, improve building manufacturing precision, flexibility levels. E. Vitality building mode   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Model design and construction of a human an effective life skills, such as a standard atlas, others architectural works; however, its vitality comes from the model combines flexible application specific conditions. Designers need to understand the principle, carry out a new model studies to building technology system and elements of the Platform: (1) the establishment of relevant advanced laboratories, such as cognitive research laboratory, material properties in a virtual environment research laboratory; (2) to collect feature data, such as peoples initiative from the bottom of the internal demand, mood, processing and materials; (3) a plasticity digital mode technology research, combined with modern computer technology to build digital plasticity model language repositories; (4) based on the above work, construction of a relational database to provide basic support for the CIBS. F. Establish a sound mechanism   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Studio teaching mode: To establish and introduce industry-wide structure, mode of cooperation, the use of the underlying database, basic research methods, new growth point, in order to achieve a smooth integration and to improve students academic and social functioning; College of the teaching building, research work to unify basic research projects.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Binding studies and education. There are different types of industry research, such as the development of research disciplines of basic research, technology research related special laws regulate the industry standards, and so on. Among them, the most closely combined with the teaching of basic research is a discipline, because it is carried out in terms of research subjects on the basis of the overall concept, thinking and other subversive, rather than social practice during the gradual development; therefore most suitable for the new the beginning of a generation of education professionals.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Through legislation to ensure direct involvement of a registered architect and architect of maintaining the registration authority. The role of a registered architect is not just reflected in the design drawings, but also to adapt to the market economy, in the construction project pre-planning, economic accounting, technical services, materials and timber, etc. should give full play to the fundamental improve the current construction enterprises backward technology readiness, design drawings cheap, low quality of workers and management level is not high status, improve construction quality.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Establish sound policies for the protection of architectural and artistic quality and the establishment of national policies, regulations, laws and certain national institutions. G. Academic status of research, significance and innovation   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   On the building process is a systematic study on cognition and exquisite architectural principles and methods of generation, about the nature of construction and architectural aesthetics, science, technology independent and complete a unified theory of architecture, the National Natural Science Fund Project Computer part of an integrated building system (CIBS) basic research . Architectural theory and practice of all aspects of profound significance.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Building process principles, explains the aesthetic refinement of perceptual cognitive architecture, building performance, construction process, the principle of the nature of art, the proposed future generation of sophisticated construction technology and methods laid the foundation; building technology system configuration provides framework analysis construction technology Paradigm and Evolution and exquisite case method further evidence, deepen understanding, to draw on, and propose specific building process model and its vision of the new design method; Chinese modern architecture combined with the objective the actual situation, analyze the crux of the proposed improvement strategy. In this paper, the Chinese modern architecture development, improved teaching, research extension, architectural innovation and appreciation, the basic building technology system reform art, enlightening understanding, provide a theoretical basis, and provide a reference case re ference practices framework; the architecture source of innovation, will contribute to the cognitive ability to feel the birth and exquisite architecture, design innovation, and increase the ability of China to build a modern building management original design, which in turn helps to build exquisite architecture and the built environment, and ultimately high quality of life and modern Chinese architectural culture. This paper includes five innovation.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Digital art computing research division of the integration build. In this paper, based on the theory building process principle and system configuration analysis, digital computing science and technology, we proposed the idea of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ ¹Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ ¹cognition, integrated design and construction methods of the digital computing points of integration build skills, the exquisite architecture, the need for further technology research, in order to effectively used in modern architectural practice, generate new forms of exquisite architecture.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Based on the principle of building processes, systems configuration, analysis and evolution of the system paradigm of Chinese modern architecture delicate task of defining the problem, problem analysis, proposed strategies to improve the systematic, integrity-related research is an innovation.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In principle the building process, the system constitutes a systematic and scientific analysis of aesthetic perception, based on the combination of modern digital technology and computer science, advanced materials and manufacturing technology, excellent modern architecture concepts and practices, conceived the new elegant building generation and creation.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Scientific architectural aesthetics and art studies terminology system, method: materialized and quantified. This thesis topic is to explain the principles and methods, both unity; nature of the world is unified and method, the building process theory is also part of the process of building a lot of aesthetic methodology included content. Conclusion Achievements of modern digital media and technology for the process of recording heritage, conservation, education, mass media, etc. provides a reference for the direct method; and organize research on the process of building heritage, our predecessors have been some achievements and experiences ; coupled with more intensive targeted supplementary survey analysis, by analyzing the differences between traditional construction process known geographical heritage, summed up a theory. Carried out on the basis of in-depth analysis and judgment, and even research results and application of the theory to other related disciplines, the necessary statistics, quantification and analysis, determination process originality, technical level, artisan skill level, and establishing appropriate standards and evaluation mode is also able to complete. By analyzing the questionnaires and the social, environmental industry, to identify existing problems and countermeasures places Carpenter, propose solut ions, but also in this period can be completed. All of these initial results, constitutes the final part of the protection and inheritance of an overall application of the system, and the scientific and meticulous preparation. In addition, through the establishment of heritage conservation practice base, with ancient local architectural craft practitioners, after theories and systems have made possible the pilot and Adjustment. My Personal Goals Essay -- essays research papers

As a child and even as a teenager one tends to make dreams and set goals for life. On occasion these goals are far stretched and sometimes even fairy-tale like, we tend to see life through a rose-colored glass, not taking into account the many sidetracks life throws our way. At that stage in life our goals tend to be less focused and somewhat unreachable. However, the process of growing up, or maturing, tends organized and center our goals, we learn to make compromises and set goals for our goals. There are different types of goals, short term and long term. I have learned to separate the many goals I have into three main categories: family, professional and personal. First, my family goals include how I see myself and how I see my family and the paths that life takes us. Being a mother and a wife to me has been the most important goal which I have set in the past, and now that the wonderful role of motherhood has taken me in full speed I have learned to adjust my goals. The most important aspect of being a mother, and the long term that I have set for myself, is to be able to raise happy and healthy children that are able to face the world in a positive manner. In order to achieve my long term goal for my family I have set a few short term goals that I believe will help in the process. One of my short term goal as a mother is to be able to be a constant parent for my two sons, ages nineteen months and three months, especially in their first five years of life. So that I m...

Radio :: essays research papers fc

Radio: Making Waves in America Radio-wave technology is one of the most important technologies used by man. It has forever changed the United States and the world, and will continue to do so in the future. Radio has been a communications medium, a recreational device, and many other things to us. When British physicist James Clerk Maxwell published his theory of electromagnetic waves in 1873, he probably never could have envisioned the sorts of things that would come of such a principle. His theory mainly had to do with light waves, but fifteen years later, a German physicist named Heinrich Hertz was able to electrically generate MaxwellÕs ÒraysÓ in his lab. The discovery of these amazing properties, the later invention of a working wireless radio, and the resulting technology have been instrumental to AmericaÕs move into the Information Age. The invention of radio is commonly credited to Guglielmo Marconi, who, starting in 1895, developed the first ÒwirelessÓ radio transmitter and receiver . Working at home with no support from his father, but plenty from his mother, Marconi improved upon the experiments and equipment of Hertz and others working on radio transmission. He created a better radio wave detector or cohere and connected it to an early type of antenna. With the help of his brothers and some of the neighborhood boys he was able to send wireless telegraph messages over short distances. By 1899 he had established a wireless communications link between England and France that had the ability to operate under any weather conditions. He had sent trans-Atlantic messages by late 1901, and later won the Nobel prize for physics in 1909. Radio works in a very complicated way, but hereÕs a more simple explanation than youÕll get from most books: Electromagnetic waves of different wavelengths are produced by the transmitter, and modulations within each wavelength are adjusted to carry ÒencodedÓ information. The receiver, tuned to read the frequency the tr ansmitter is sending on, then takes the encoded information (carried within the wave modulations), and translates it back into the sensory input originally transmitted. Many of the men who pioneered radio had designs for it. Marconi saw it as the best communication system and envisioned instant world-wide communication through the air. David Sarnoff ( later the head of RCA and NBC) had a vision of Òa radio receiver in every homeÓ in 1916, although the real potential of radio wasnÕt realized until after World War I.

Information Strategy Plan for catering services Essay

Develop a solid, corporate identity in its specified targeted market areas. Become the top brokerage firm by its fifth year (2015) of operation, or before. The company believes that the above-mentioned objectives are obtainable because of the high degree of professionalism and expertise in real estate marketing upheld by the corporation’s core values. Compliance to the RESA Law compels all marketing executives with the knowledge of the real estate laws and procedures which will give them the corresponding license from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) as Licensed Real Estate  Sales Agents to engage in the marketing and sales of real estate properties. DRIVEN will provide them the needed training upon entering the profession. Free and paid trainings will be available at a high return to the agent. When starting out, most agents are not able proper training and support. The office environment will be productively and professionally presentable making it inviting to the agent as well as to its client developers and potential buyers / investors. A team of assistants and coordinators will man the office to provide virtual support and track daily marketing routine/schedule. Marketing executives will have the opportunity to be guided each day through a marketing plan. They may choose to follow the guidelines and training provided or they may follow their own daily routines. The company will be supplying a well-studied program allowing the new marketing executives to earn more than the average real estate agent by providing constant guidance and stability. If an agent for example sets a goal to obtain one buyer for the month, on an average of Php3,000,000.00 he would earn an income of Php81,000 per month (inclusive of withholding tax) X 12 months = Php972,000 per year. The accredited brokers will guide and assist every marketing executive in conquering this goal. The same sales as noted above would profit the corporation Php27,000 per month X 12 months = Php324,000 for the year X 460 agents = Php149,0400,000.  Under the RESA Law the real estate brokers on the other hand, are entitled to manage 20 marketing executives hence the corresponding profit for the accredited brokers given the same sales goal will be Php27,000 per month X 12 months = Php324,000 for the year X 20 agents = Php3,888,000 on top of his personal sales. At every stage of a persons’ search for property the listing will experience attrition or in other words a point where the searcher does will not proceed to view details or make an enquiry about the property being sold. This happens when the property cannot be found hence agents are encouraged to utilize all major portals in the market to minimize attrition and maximize results. No attention grabbers can also happen when the website is compromised by poorly optimized and presented Images and even the mere. Titles and Text may increase attrition rate significantly reason why all listings presented on portals should theme professional real estate photography as well as optimized titles and text. People online get bored quickly as well, if a person’s interest is lost while reviewing the property, chances are a potential sale might be lost as well. Apart from getting bored quickly, people using the internet react impulsively. They are quick to judge and if their perception is negative of what they are reading or seeing they will leave and move on, potentially never to look at the listing again.

Edward Zwick’s Glory Essay

Edward Zwick’s Glory was powerful film history that popularized a story of the Civil War which was largely unknown. Primarily, this film gave credit to the story of African-American 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry from Robert Gould Shaw’s perspective who was a son of Boston abolitionist. This Hollywood movie depicts the participation of African American soldiers during the American Civil War which gives us some perspective about our history. Synopsis The film was all about the historical views of the Civil war took place in America (IMDb 1990 -2001). Glory† has been entitled to this film because it was a celebration of the African soldiers who courageously stood every challenge although it was not recognized by history due to racism. The heroes who belonged to the 54th Regiment of the Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry were all African-American soldiers. The regiments were headed by the son of an abolitionist named Col. Robert Gould Shaw who took the responsibility of preparing these soldiers for battle. Their race had been a hindrance and this was the reason why these soldiers were denied of every privilege and were given the hardest task although they fought in behalf of their white counterparts. When the day finally arrived to attack Ft. Wagner on July 18, 1863, the Confederates secretly and safely slipped away. Shaw led the 54th to fight for honor in a mission which was led to certain death while carrying the regiments into battle and fight for the honor of the country. This film was a depiction of Northern racism but despite the fact that white people were reluctant to issue proper equipment, paying these black soldiers lesser than whites they still resist their demeaning position in the Union army. The film was all about the former black slaves who bravely fought in order to win the liberty for their enslaved brothers. The film also showed different scenes about the infantry regiments who witnessed the federal service of Union Army during the Civil war. The film was historically accurate in some aspects but some were quite contrasting. Other historical aspects has been bent slightly such as the older depiction of Frederick Douglass in contrast with the historically accurate rendering of uniforms, weaponry and the battle’s opposing lines, the siege of a fortress; The role give to Shaw was also accurate; his acceptance to lead the 54th which was held in the field an not at the ball; Free-born blacks from the North had been drilled in local militaries before they got enlisted; Whipping was really used in Union army as a form of discipline; the 54th was the first black regiment ; Col. James Montgomery was depicted as murderer of racist which distorted the fact that he was supporting John Brown as an abolitionist. Finally, the assault on Fort Wagner was set with the sea on their left though they should be travelling north where the sea must be on their right. As part of our history, the portrayals of the role revealed that people were basically good but also has an evil instinct and this plays an important event towards the modern world which gave us a deeper understanding of why racism started. The film was made in 1980’s and was released in December 1989 in the U.  S. The film was very timely since President Abraham Lincoln has been assassinated in 1985 which gave a great influence in the movie since he was the President during the Civil wars (Swanson; 42). President Lincoln finally helped the black men to secure the final victory after the fort has been abandoned. With this event from the scene, it shows that in our history, the government implemented rules regarding the separation of black people from the white together with all the policies that are given to them whenever they protest or did not follow the rules. The film characters were mostly black people which can be critiqued as one sided view of the film to somehow suit their liberal agenda. Glory brought up some issues during those times such as slavery and sacrifice in order to be considered as men (Clamen, 2009). However, on the other hand, it only focused on one side which created negative rumors about Confederates as faceless enemies. The audience who will see it could create different interpretation about what had happened in the past which could possibly result to a new discussion for debates. Somehow it could be diverted to issue in our present world that’s why, the director should be careful about it. The movie wants to tell the viewers that racism became a part of our past but because the black people fight for what they believe is right and showed that they can also be a great hero, they have been given the chance to prove that color should not be an issue when we talk about serving the nation. Opinion I have learned so much from life when I watched the movie. I have seen how hard it is to live at that time specially when you belong to the black race. It is very obvious how the black people were treated as slaves at that time. The movie also shows the hardship that the black people experience. They don’t have a very good place to live in, they don’t have luxuries, they were not given importance on the society and they don’t have much privilege during those times. Since this movie was based from our history, I can say that everything that’s happening in modern times was really affected by it, and the result could be good or bad. Good, in a sense that white people and black people were now united, bad to some people who still discriminate black people because of the history. It is also obvious in the film that the black soldiers were into special colored units which shows a form of segregation, another practice of racist in our nation’s history. I think that the movie brought up the best in conveying the historical lesson to the audience. Each scene seems very realistic though not all, each line in the script was very essential and the characters did a very good job which made it possible in making this film a good one. Conclusion In general as a conclusion, racism has been part of the history which practically and emotionally, gave the black people the will and the courage to fight for their rights to be recognized as people and as part of the American society that in the end, their contribution has led to the victory of the whole and they have been recognized. However, Hollywood is still going to give us a movie that will show us our past, but it needs a critical research, and deep examination of what had really happened in the past so that the movie will not appear biased to anyone else who will see it and those who are still connected with it. Overall, Hollywood is a big help to us in shaping our knowledge about what happened in our history as the film makers are making it as accurate as possible.

A Good Leader Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

A Good Leader - Essay Example I am required to plan and organize events and ensure the harmony of group members, is a great experience for future positions in the business world where it might be necessary for me to organize corporate gatherings and facilitate contract negotiations. I will defend it whether it is right or wrong. I entirely disagree. I perceive myself as a malleable person and I also believe I consider other’s opinions. If I defend my opinion, it means that I am confident about its validity. I believe that if I am stubborn about my ideas it is in regards to my ambition and desire to see projects through to their full potential. However, I realize that candidness towards other people’s ideas is very important in business. Without being open to other people’s ideas and perspectives, it is impossible to successfully collaborate. In business, effective collaboration is built on the open trust and freedom of expression of all group members. Through this open environment, the group is then able to compare ideas and attain a goal that would be impossible the sole efforts of an individual. Even as I ultimately see myself as a leader, I think it’s important to consider Franklin Roosevelt who said, â€Å"A good leader can't get too far ahead of his followers.† While I hope to function as a strong beacon of direction for my friends, I realize that it’s important to not forget the essential similarity of all human-kind and that the great thing about having friends is the chance to share the great journey of life with someone that understands.

Richard Kuklinski (Iceman) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Richard Kuklinski (Iceman) - Essay Example The murders he committed and the sufferings he caused in his victims create an image of unbelievable cruelty, which is hardly a sign of normality. However, Kuklinski is not a psychopath in a traditional sense of word. For many years, he was able to conceal his criminal activity behind the veils of almost perfect marriage and family life. What psychopathy is and how it differs from antisocial behaviors is a continued debate. In 1996, Doctor Robert D. Hare wrote an article, which had to expose and explain the criteria for antisocial personality and how they differed for psychopaths. It appears that all psychopaths are necessarily antisocial but not all antisocial individuals are psychotic (Hare). In this sense, Richard Kuklinski (Iceman) is believed to be one of the brightest examples of psychopathy in forensic psychiatry. Several actions Kuklinski did in his crimes lead professionals to believe he is a psychopath. First, the number of his victims is simply enormous: Kuklinski reports having killed at least one hundred of people. Second, Kuklinski recognizes that most, if not all, people he attacked were murdered before he would know them – simply stated, he would kill anyone he did not like at the first glance. Third, Kuklinski turned his asocial quest for murders into the source of considerable profits. Throughout his life, he would trust only his wife and family and profess his love for Barbara and his children (Holmes & Holmes 142). Surprisingly or not, Kuklinski confesses he did not experience any pleasure while committing his murders –throughout his life, sex was his greatest source of satisfaction and pleasure. It is difficult to imagine that a person would commit so many people without any sign of satisfaction with his action. Yet, if Kuklinski is truthful, it only reinforces the picture of his psychopathy. It should be noted that, according to the Five-Factor model of personality, Kuklinski manifests most, if not all, features characteristi c of a psychopath. His neuroticism is extremely low. He creates an impression of being free from any psychological impediments and social disorders. As a psychopathic person, Kuklinski has an ability to put people at ease (Cooke, Forth & Hare 54). Throughout his interview with the psychologist, Kuklinski does not show a single sign of nervousness. Low neuroticism is also the sign of low self-consciousness which is further supplemented with the feeling of low vulnerability to stress and risk (Cooke, Forth & Hare 54). His excessively low anxiousness is one of the best proofs to his psychopathy (Cooke, Forth & Hare 55). Kuklinski does not show any sign of deceptiveness and, unlike many psychopaths, is remarkably stable in his marital relationships (Cooke, Forth & Hare 56). Nevertheless, he demonstrates the signs of antagonistic aggression, low conscientiousness, the need for external stimulation (Cooke, Forth & Hare 56). He is not a psychopath in a traditional sense of word, since he i s able to balance his commitment to deep, prolonged family relationships with coldness and non-emotionality in human relations. It should be noted, that the roots of Kuklinski’s psychopathy date back to his childhood and the episodes of abuse which he experienced from his parents. His father was a railroad brakeman and his mother was a meat packing plant worker (Anonymous). Both parents beat Kuklinski and his brothers. In 1940, Kuklinski’s older brother died as a result of parental violence, but his parents were able to conceal the case from
